the apartment

In January 2003, I officially moved into the Brake House Lofts, a new apartment building that was once a factory in Pittsburgh's Strip District. It's just a five-minute walk from my future employer, and minutes away from plenty of great restaurants and night spots. By car, it's about a 15-minute drive from Carnegie Mellon University. There is also a bus stop right outside.

The Brake House Lofts, located at the corner of 25th and Liberty Avenue in Pittsburgh's artsy Strip District neighborhood. The building used to be a factory, but it's being modernized with some pretty decorations in the lobby. Even the mailboxes have a weird pseudo-modern look to them. The apartment numbers were still on order when I came to visit. The view from the hallway into the loft. The view of the apartment from the bedroom. The view of the apartment from the corner of the living room. The loft has a full bathroom with the same concrete floor as the rest of the floor space. The bedroom features two huge windows that look out onto Liberty Avenue. All apartments in the building have central heat and air conditioning, but there are also two ceiling fans. I can't see out of this window because of the banner that blocks the way. Hopefully it will be gone by the time I move in. The L-shaped kitchen would come in handy if I knew how to cook. The living room / dining room area shares its space with the kitchen area. The corner is clearly visible from my apartment, and there is a bus stop just outside. I don't know what this is, but I have two of them.
